Yogyakarta DPRD Praises Urban Farming in Jakarta

This is good way to support the government

The Yogyakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) legislators threw compliments on the implementation of urban farming in Jakarta after they visited several urban farming locations, such as in Kebayoran Lama Selatan Urban Village managed by Seruni Indah Farmers Group (Poktan) and Green Alley in RW 09, Grogol Selatan Urban Village.

Yogyakarta DPRD Vice Chairperson Anton Prabu Semendawai disclosed that there was a lot of professional migration from farmers to other professions in Yogyakarta. However, in Jakarta, most people began to be interested in becoming urban farmers, especially by moving the Karang Taruna youth group and Family Welfare Movement (PKK) to take advantage of the yard.

"Many use the yard by planting with hydroponics and conventional farming in Jakarta. This is good way to support the government," he expressed, Thursday (2/20).

The Yogyakarta Council Member Hanum Salsabiela Rais added, although production facilities are available, farmers often forget seeding after harvest. But, in Jakarta, city farmers received the help of seeds and seedlings, most are able to survive until they continue to develop well.

"On this occasion, we want to know the concept of developing agrotourism in Jakarta and controlling inflation very well here," he explained.

Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Agency's Agriculture Division Head Mujiati uttered urban farming in Jakarta was stated in the Gubernatorial Regulation number 14/2018 on Implementation of Urban Farming and Great Design of Urban Farming 2018-2030.

"Through officers at the sub-district level, we continue to assist its citizens ranging from seeding, processing of crops, to packaging and marketing of farming products," he said.
